Meet the Candidate for Evanston's City Manager
City Council has narrowed the city manager search to a single candidate, Urbana City Administrator Carol Mitten. As part of the final decision process, a City Manager Candidate Town Hall will be held in the Council Chambers of the Morton Civic Center on Thurs., July 28 at 7 p.m.
Questions for the candidate? You can submit questions online for the Town Hall in advance by 5 p.m. on Wed., July 27. Or, questions can be asked live during the event in-person or through Zoom.
Tune in: Community members can attend the meeting in person, join via Zoom, or watch live on City Channel 16 and the City’s YouTube channel.
Stroll and shop all weekend long!
Shop until you drop on Central Street: Head to Central Street through Sunday for the biggest sales of the year! Shop outside tables and racks filled with discounts, grab local eats, and enjoy activities and entertainment.
Head downtown for deals and art: Downtown Evanston will host its annual Sidewalk Sale + Chalk Art Contest this weekend, where stores throughout downtown offer awesome deals at racks and tables on the sidewalks. On Saturday, artists of all ages will also create chalk art outside of local businesses. Take a stroll and watch the artists in action!
Connection for the Homeless Block Party
Join in on Sat., July 23 for Connections for the Homeless' first Block Party in the 5th Ward! The Block Party will consists of two events:
Family Fest: Spend the afternoon (noon to 4 p.m.) enjoying family-friendly entertainment and activities for all ages at Foster Field. Experience a live DJ, gospel brunch, pop-up library, inflatables, games and more!
After Dark: Those who are 21 years and older can head to Double Clutch Brewing Company, located at 2121 Ashland Ave., from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. for live music, craft brews, and food trucks. Register to attend!
Experience the musical sounds of summer!
Head out for another concert under the stars on Tues., July 26 as a part of the Starlight Concert series. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy the Josh Gilbert Band beginning at 7 p.m. at Larimer Park, located at Crain Street and Oak Avenue.

Cases: Evanston reported 186 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 289 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 26.57.

Monkeypox Update
To date, Illinois has reported over 200 cases of monkeypox.
What You Should Know
- Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. The source of the disease remains unknown.
- Monkeypox is spread through close contact with body fluids, sores, shared bedding or clothing, or respiratory droplets.
- In 2022, there have been monkeypox outbreaks in the U.S. and Europe. A number of those outbreaks have been with patients who identify as gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men. These outbreaks are currently under investigation.
- Common symptoms include a rash or unusual sores on the face, body, and genitals, fever, chills, head or muscle aches, and swelling of the lymph nodes.
- Avoid close contact with anyone who has a rash or symptoms of monkeypox. Do not handle or touch the bedding, towels, or clothing of a person with monkeypox.
- If you or a recent partner have been exposed (within the last 21 days) or have symptoms, you should see a healthcare provider.
- Seek vaccinations if you have been exposed to monkeypox.

Substantial Amendment to the 2021 Action Plan
The City’s Housing & Community Development Committee is seeking public comment through August 16 on the substantial amendment to the 2021 Action Plan to reallocate unexpended 2021 CDBG Administration funds and transfer of un-obliged Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 income. Comments may be submitted to housing@cityofevanston.org.
