It was an honor to support one of Evanston’s reparations recipients as she prepares for the home improvement work ahead.
After our first cleanup day at her home, I realized we needed heavier machinery to get the job done. Thankfully my good friend Deandreas McCanton of DM Investments always answers the call.
Thank you to Rebuilding Together and Deandreas for the great volunteer work you do. As my son said, this was “Community Power.”
I was thrilled to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Teen Center at Gibbs Morrison Cultural Center alongside Mayor Biss, Parks & Recreation Director Audrey Thompson, the Youth & Young Adult Development team and youth Leaders.
We’re excited to offer a place where teens are welcome to hangout with friends in a comfortable space with VR games, a café, and enrichment programming.
Participants enjoyed lunch and ice cream and joined in on a Violence Prevention Week activity. The new Teen Center is open daily from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the summer. Special shoutout to Lachisa Barton of the Youth & Young Adult team for sparking this effort.
