EPA releases drinking water health advisories for PFAS
The U.S. EPA has released drinking water health advisories for four per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – widely used, long lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time. Health advisories are not regulatory levels and are not a federally enforceable health-based limit, but provide states and water utilities with a reference point as they evaluate potential contamination and appropriate responses to assure the safety of drinking water. Learn more about PFAS and view Evanston’s most recent results.
Monkeypox cases reported in Illinois
As of yesterday, the CDC is reporting 156 Monkeypox cases in the United States, including 19 from Illinois. There are no cases in Evanston.
While Monkeypox is a rare disease and does not spread easily between people without close contact, the Evanston Health and Human Services Department urges community members to be aware of the small but growing number of cases that have been identified. The threat of monkeypox to the general U.S. population remains low.
