Happy Eid to all who celebrate! What is Eid al Adha? This is the Feast of the Sacrifice or the day when Muslims celebrate the prophet Ibrahim and his son, Ismail. This prophet is celebrated as Abraham by Christians and Jews; the three faiths are sometimes called the Abrahamic religions. The first day of Eid al-Adha marks the end of the yearly Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca). The 2022 celebration of Eid starts on the evening of July 9 and ends sundown on July 10, but the three days that follow are often included as part of the celebrations.
Eid al Adha is one of two holidays celebrated by Muslims all over the world! Muslim worshippers typically perform a communal prayer, or ṣalāt, at dawn on the first day of the festival, attend Mosque, donate to charities and visit with family and friends, also exchanging gifts. Kids get new clothes and Eidia, or monetary gifts. Adults also gift each other with dates as well as pistachio cookies, baklava, and date cookies. YUM!
