EVANSTON, IL - Starting Friday, June 17 through Monday, August 1, the City of Evanston Fire Department and Water Production Bureau are conducting annual fire hydrant testing. On-duty firefighters will test nearly1,400 fire hydrants in the City in between responding to emergency incidents. Water Production personnel are responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of the City’s fresh water supply and promptly address any issues discovered during testing.
During this time, commercial and residential customers may experience a slight discoloration in their water supply when hydrants are flushed near their location. A slight discoloration is to be expected and should be brief. Residents and business owners should flush their water lines until the discoloration clears.
If you encounter a hydrant test in progress, you may see water being flushed from the hydrant into the street. Your safety, along with that of other motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and the firefighters conducting the test, depends on your actions. Please be careful, slow down, and wait for testing to be completed if you cannot safely proceed.
For more information, please call/text 847-448-4311. For convenience, residents may dial 3-1-1 in Evanston.
