Large areas of pavement to be patched on Asbury, Ridge, Central and South/Sheridan
The City of Evanston will be contracting street resurfacing and asphalt pavement patching in areas throughout the city beginning the week of June 13.
Pavement Patching
The City will be patching large areas of asphalt pavement on four main roadways in Evanston:
- Asbury Avenue - Oakton Street to Dempster Street
- Central Street – Crawford Avenue to Ridge Avenue
- Ridge Avenue – Howard Street to Church Street
- South Blvd./Sheridan Road – Chicago Avenue to South City Limits
This project will include removing the top distressed and failing asphalt surface and replacing it with a fresh, smooth asphalt surface. Once the asphalt is laid, compacted, and cooled, the street will be opened for traffic. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin later in the week of June 13 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
During construction, motorists should expect minor delays near work zones as flaggers route traffic around the work crews. Two-way traffic will be maintained during street grinding and asphalt patching operations. Parking restrictions will be short in duration and specific to the daily work zones. “No Parking” signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of when the restriction is enforced and will be removed as soon as the work is completed.
Street Resurfacing
Beginning June 13 and continuing over the next ten weeks, the City will contract road resurfacing work on nine street segments. The project involves curb replacement as needed, roadway base repair, sewer work, replacement of asphalt surface from curb to curb along with selected ADA sidewalk replacement and driveway aprons.
Construction has been planned in two phases. Specific locations included in each phase of construction are listed below.
Phase 1 Streets
- Florence Avenue (Cleveland Street to Monroe Street)
- Greenleaf Street (Hinman Avenue to Sheridan Road)
- Madison Street (Wesley Avenue to Florence Avenue)
- McDaniel Avenue (Lee Street to Dead End South)
- Mulford Street (Asbury Avenue to Barton Avenue)
Phase 2 Streets
- Elm Avenue (Lincoln Street to Central Street)
- Grant Street (Asbury Avenue to Ridge Avenue)
- Harrison Street (Elm Avenue to McDaniel Avenue)
- Harrison Street (Prairie Avenue to Green Bay Road)
Construction will begin the week of June 13 on Phase 1 Street segments with the entire project expected to be fully completed in August. The actual date when construction is planned for each street will be noted on the temporary “No Parking” signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of work. Construction zone daytime “No Parking” restrictions will be intermittent throughout the duration of the project; evening and night time parking (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.) will always be available. Street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime parking restrictions are in effect.
Funding for the project comes from the City’s Rebuild Illinois/ Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) Funds; there will be no direct charge for property owners on these streets.
