Wrong Way Driver Arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
EVANSTON, IL - On May 25, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m. detectives from the Evanston Police Special Operations Group were in the 2000 block of Ashland Ave. when they encountered a Ford Edge driving north bound in the south bound lane. Detectives pulled over to allow the Ford Edge to pass without striking their squad car. Based on the observed traffic violation, detectives stopped the Ford Edge.
Detectives made contact with the driver and sole occupant, Tyrese Bishop. Based on their investigation and observations, detectives asked Bishop if there was a gun in the vehicle. Bishop then admitted the backpack on the front passenger seat contained a gun.
Detectives recovered the gun, a Century Arms Micro Draco which can be described as a miniature AK style pistol. Detectives continued their investigation and interview of Bishop. Bishop admitted to possessing the vehicle and the gun.
Further investigation revealed that Bishop had a suspended driver's license. It also revealed that Bishop did not have a Concealed Carry License or FOID card. The vehicle was towed.
