Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge starts June 1, 10 am, at either the Main Library or the Robert Crown Branch Library! Your kids will get a free, high quality paperback book of their choice and a cool scratch-able bingo card with fun reading and writing activities. When your kids complete five activities on the bingo card in a row (down, across or diagonal), come in for an awesome selection of fun activity kit prizes and get entered into our Grand Prize Drawing! More information. This program is for toddlers through 5th grade; the Loft has a teen program for older kids.

District 65 also has a great summer reading list that will help you complete some of the squares on the EPL's READ-O card. It's called Read Beyond Borders and lets kids "travel" through reading to Europe, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and Asia this summer as well as North and South America. Which continent will your kids travel to first? District 65 also has a Middle school (rising 6-8 graders) summer reading list.

Lantern Floating Ceremony (all ages): Join Kids Create Change for a community Lantern Floating Ceremony. This will be an opportunity for community members to come together to honor the losses resulting from the pandemic by participating in the collective act of floating lanterns. Virtual Microwave cooking class: Gluten Free! (Rising grades K-5) Want to learn how to cook gluten free using your microwave? This month we will be making some great gluten free food using a mug and a microwave. Craft! Create a lovely, recycled Tzedakah box! What is Tzedakah? It means righteousness in Hebrew but its intent is more like "an ethical obligation to help others." The box makes it easy and fun to collect coins and then you and your kids decide whom to help! A great lesson for any child.
