City Manager Candidate Town Hall next week
Tune in to the virtual City Manager Candidate Town Hall on Tues., May 3 at 6:30 p.m. to meet the two candidates selected as finalists.
Participate: Submit your question for the candidates by Mon., May 2 at 5 p.m. Following the town hall, a feedback form will be available to provide your perspective.

Mark your calendar for the State of the City
Join the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Biss, and NorthShore University HealthSystem for the 2022 Mayor's State of the City Luncheon on Fri., May 20, 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., at Palmhouse. Registration is open through Wed., May 18 at noon, so purchase your tickets today!
Spring leaf blower reminders
Backpack-mounted or hand-held gas-powered leaf blowers are allowed for use through May 15 on the following days and hours:
- Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
Beginning in 2023, gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited for use in Evanston. View leaf blower restrictions (.pdf)
What about electric leaf blowers? Seasonal restrictions do not apply to electric-powered leaf blowers. Several landscaping companies have already invested in electric leaf blower equipment.
Questions or concerns? Leaf blower concerns should be directed to Evanston 311 (not 911) by calling/texting 847-448-4311 or simply dialing 3-1-1 while in Evanston.
May is ASPA Heritage Month!
Celebrate the achievements and contributions of Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islanders in America during the month of May.
Umbrella Arts Festival: Attend the inaugural Umbrella Arts Festival on Sat., May 14, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Fountain Square. Enjoy local food, art, dance performances and music, including a special concert by Funkadesi!
May Mart: Inspired by the spirit of the ubiquitous street markets found in cities and towns in Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islander countries around the world, May Mart is an invitation to experience the vibrant diversity of food, art, craft, trade and services of Evanston’s ASPA business owners.
Lantern Floating Ceremony: Join Kids Create Change on Tues., May 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Arrington Lakefront Lagoon for a community Lantern Floating Ceremony. Honor the losses resulting from the pandemic by participating in the collective act of floating lanterns.

COVID-19 Update

Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations.
Cases: Evanston reported 212 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 210 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 30.29.
To date, Evanston has had 12,103 total confirmed cases, and 147 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. View the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile).
Vaccinations: 97.4 percent of residents 5 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 88.3 percent are fully vaccinated. View the City’s vaccination data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH.
Positivity rate: Positivity rate data is not available for this week, as the IDPH has not provided the total number of tests conducted over the last seven days.

Donate essential items to those in need
Interfaith Action is collecting razors, shaving cream and deodorant for their May 10 distribution event. You can help by purchasing these items online or shopping local and dropping them off at First United Methodist Church, 516 Church St., on Sat., May 7, 10 a.m. to noon.
