Additional driver’s side book drops on Prairie and outside Robert Crown add convenience
EVANSTON, IL - The Evanston Public Library announced this week that two new book drops have been installed to make returning library books more convenient for patrons.
The two new book drops are “driver’s side” book drops. They are located on Prairie Avenue near Central Street and outside the Robert Crown Community Center, 1801 Main Street.
In addition, the Evanston Public Library also offers book drops at the following locations throughout Evanston:
- Inside the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue
- In front of the Main Library, on Church Street
- Inside the Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster Street
- At the Robert Crown Branch Library, located inside the Robert Crown Center
In response to community feedback gathered over a series of community listening sessions held last year, the Evanston Public Library has been working to expand convenient public access to the Library and its resources throughout the community.
In addition to the new book drops, in March, EPL announced its new Library Express after-hours service, which allows patrons to drop by the Robert Crown branch during expanded morning and evening hours to use computers, check out books, or find some quiet reading and studying space.
In 2020, the Library stopped charging overdue fines on materials to remove another barrier to residents. EPL has also continued to expand its offerings of downloadable materials, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies and TV shows, and periodicals, as well as online programming, to reach people wherever they are.
“We have been listening and working to create a library that is more accessible to everyone in our community,” Executive Director Karen Danczak Lyons said. "I hope that these additional book drops are a welcome convenience for our residents."

Become the smartest person in the room with a mini-course on the Supreme Court at EPL
Free mini-course taught by Northwestern professor emeritus will bring you up to speed on major decisions and issues
Few American institutions generate as much passionate public debate as the United States Supreme Court. Recently, the Supreme Court’s decision (or non-decision) on abortion rights has sent shockwaves through statehouses across the country, and the nomination of the first Black woman to the Court has provoked celebration and consternation, demonstrating just how divided our country has become.
Learn about the Court, its recent major decisions and ongoing cases, and the recommendations of the Presidential Commission on SCOTUS in a free mini-course instructed by Northwestern Professor emeritus Jerry Goldman. Goldman is the founder of OYEZ, a searchable multimedia database of Supreme Court oral arguments and opinion announcements dating to October 1955.
The first session is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, in person or on Zoom. Readings will be sent to participants before the first session. When you register, you'll be registered for both class sessions, on April 26 and May 3. Attendance of both sessions, though strongly recommended, is not required to enjoy and learn. Brought to you by the Evanston Public Library and the Northwestern Emeriti Organization (NEO).
For almost 150 years, the Library has provided educational, culturally-rich resources for all residents, helped children prepare for school through the joys of reading and learning, celebrated Evanston’s diversity, and helped residents find information they seek. The Library is more than a building of books; it is a place to meet, connect, learn and explore. To learn more, visit www.epl.org.
