Get ready to #RetrainYourBrain this weekend. Beginning Sat., April 9, “The Bias Inside Us," a community engagement project from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) will open at the Main Library. The project raises awareness about the social science and psychology of implicit bias, the impact of this bias and what people can do about it.
“The Bias Inside Us” features a traveling exhibition that serves as the centerpiece for local programs and activities. Explore the foundational blocks of bias, the psychology of how it forms, and how it influences behaviors both consciously and unconsciously in interactive displays. The exhibition runs until Friday, May 8, 2022.
In addition to the exhibition itself, EPL and partner organizations throughout Evanston will host a series of events throughout the Evanston community to explore issues of bias more personally.
On Saturday afternoons throughout the exhibit, Kids Create Change will be on site to host a Community Art Build Workshop for all ages. Join us to create a community art project based on the ideas in “The Bias Inside Us.” No prior art experience is necessary. Read more about the exhibit and the full event lineup here.
2021 Annual Report releases in time for National Library Week!
Let's celebrate! April 3 - 9 is the American Library Association's National Library Week! And what better way to celebrate than with a look back on the past year of our relationship with the Evanston community? If you live in Evanston, our 2021 Annual Report will be arriving in the mail soon, but you can read our online version (and in Spanish, too) now.
In 2021, the Evanston Public Library began a series of community listening sessions to engage with our community and guide the future of the Library. We also expanded our Spanish-language offerings, offered more opportunities for BIPOC staff members to join us or grow in their field, brought programming out into neighborhoods across Evanston, and so much more. We're looking forward to another year of partnership with you.
You can support us by giving a gift, volunteering your time, or even just dropping by one of our locations or sharing a post on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter (like the one in the links in honor of Library Week!) to let people know how the Library keeps you connected.
