Are you eligible for a second booster dose?
The Evanston Health & Human Services Department and Illinois Department of Public Health are adopting CDC guidance allowing a second COVID-19 booster dose for individuals 50 years and older and immunocompromised individuals 12 years and older to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19.
Who can get a second booster shot?
-
Individuals age 50 and older can get a second booster dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine if it’s been at least four months since their first booster dose.
-
Immunocompromised individuals age 12 and older can get a second booster dose of the Pfizer (12+) or Moderna (18+) vaccine if it’s been at least four months since their first booster dose.
-
Individuals ages 18-49 who are not immunocompromised and who received the J&J vaccine as their primary and booster dose may receive a second booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine if it’s been at least four months since their first J&J booster dose.
Getting a second booster dose is especially important for those 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk for severe disease from COVID-19.
Where can you get a second booster shot?
Visit vaccines.gov to find and schedule a vaccination appointment at a time and place convenient for you.
You can also complete the City’s vaccine booster survey to be notified of upcoming vaccination clinics hosted by the Evanston Health & Human Services Department.
IDPH Community-based Testing Sites Closing
In response to a sharp drop in demand for COVID-19 tests, the IDPH will end operations at its 10 community-based COVID-19 testing sites as of today. COVID-19 tests are widely available through an extensive network of SHIELD saliva testing sites, at federally qualified health centers, and can be ordered free of charge from the federal government. The State is currently strongly positioned to respond to a potential surge, with the State stockpile of tests nearly fully replenished.
