Have an unpaved alley?
Each year, starting in the spring, Evanston’s more than 300 unpaved alleys are periodically graded by the City. This work is done to eliminate potholes and ruts which improves travel and reduces puddling. View the 2022 Alley Maintenance Schedule.
The MSYEP Job Fair is this weekend
Evanston youth age 14 to 18 years can find a great summer job this weekend at the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP) Job Fair. The event takes place this Sat., March 12, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at ETHS. Applications will be available on site.
Fountain Square fountain update
The City is disappointed to announce that the Fountain Square fountain will remain off for the 2022 season as it seeks reimbursement of expenses from the fountain contractor to make extensive repairs.
What happened? When turning the fountain on for the 2021 season, City staff observed that the fountain was unable to retain water. A forensic engineering study later concluded that the fountain contractor installed incorrectly sized waterstops, did not follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for installation, and failed to submit the waterstops to the City or its engineering consultant for review or approval prior to installation.
When will it be fixed? The City will budget for repairs in 2023 as it pursues reimbursement from the contractor.
Will the plazas stay open? Both the north and south plazas of Fountain Square will remain open for seating, activities and public gatherings in 2022. Downtown Evanston is planning a wide variety of community events to activate the space, including Thursday Night Markets, music performances, health and fitness classes, and much more.
