Work to begin week of February 28
The City of Evanston will begin rehabilitation of its 30-inch transmission water main, an 8,200-foot-long pipeline that is a critical part of the citywide water transmission network. In addition to increasing the resiliency of the citywide system, it serves as the primary water supply for residents and businesses in downtown Evanston and makes it possible to provide water to the City’s wholesale water customers.
The scope of the 30-Inch Transmission Main Rehabilitation Project includes a combination of water main replacement via open-cut construction and water main rehabilitation using the cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining method. It also includes storm installation, concrete curb and sidewalk replacement, pavement patching, hot mix asphalt street resurfacing on Sherman Avenue and Colfax Street, parkway restoration, and all related incidental work.
Overall Project Schedule
In order to minimize the impacts on the residents and businesses, this project will be completed in several stages with a tentative schedule as noted in the map below. Construction will begin the week of February 28 on Colfax Street at Sherman Avenue and Church Street at Benson Avenue. Pre-stage work on Benson Avenue will also be completed in March.
During construction, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on all of the impacted streets, and businesses will be accessible at all times. The actual date when construction is planned will be noted on temporary “No Parking” signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of the work. Construction zone “No Parking any time” will be in effect on sections of Sherman Avenue and Benson Avenue intermittently during construction. The entire project is expected to be complete by spring 2023.
The City recognizes that construction activities will create some inconveniences for the adjacent businesses and property owners, but will attempt to minimize these issues.
Funding
The construction cost is $9,686,118. Funding is provided through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Public Water Supply Loan Program (PWSLP), which is funded by both state and federal sources.
Contractor
The contractor for this project is Bolder Contractors Inc. located at 316 Cary Point Dr., Cary, IL.
