Come one, come all—The Cardboard Carnival is back in town!
The Cardboard Carnival is a free series of citywide challenges for District 65 students and Evanston residents in grades 5-8. Through coding and constructing a 3-D cardboard arcade game, participating kids learn about the engineering design process, strengthen their interest in STEM, and build valuable problem-solving skills. Supply kits will be loaned out for free and available for pickup—the only thing participants need to supply is cardboard.
The Carnival kicks off Saturday, Feb. 26, and registration is open until Sunday, March 20. Sign up here. The challenge culminates in a community showcase Saturday, April 9, when participating students will present their finished work to friends and family and be awarded prizes in a raffle.
EPL Children's Librarian heads committee to select Children's Literature Legacy Award Winner
The Evanston Public Library is proud to announce that its very own Children's Librarian Brian E. Wilson directed the national committee to select this year’s Children’s Literature Legacy Award Winner.
The Children’s Literacy Legacy Award celebrates authors and illustrators whose body of work over their lifetime has had a profound impact on children’s literature in the United States. This year’s award went to Grace Lin, author of more than 40 children’s books.
“Chairing gave me the unforgettable chance to work with four dedicated and insightful children's literature lovers from all around the country,” he said. “We spent hours reading great books by several amazing nominees, researching their careers, and then discussing our contenders via monthly Zoom meetings.”
