Be a good neighbor this winter
Shoveling your sidewalk is the neighborly thing to do! Help make Evanston safe and accessible for all by keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
What to know: Sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours after any accumulation of snow; paths must be at least 36 inches wide.
Pitch in: Help seniors and those with disabilities by volunteering for the City’s Snow Shoveling Program. You can also request assistance. We're shorthanded this year and could use more volunteers, so please consider lending a hand!
Temporary reduced hours for Collector's Office
Due to staffing shortages brought on by COVID-19, the Collector's Office at the Morton Civic Center will have reduced hours January 10-28. Temporary hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Celebrate MLK Jr. Day in Evanston
Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Mon., Jan. 17 by participating in community events hosted by Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre, Evanston Public Library and Northwestern University.
The MLK Project 2022: Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre and Youth and Senior Theatre Ensemble Project have joined together to broadcast a melodic collage of faces and voices delivering a portion of the iconic “I Have A Dream” speech. The video will be available for viewing on the FJT web page by noon on January 17.

Cases: Evanston reported 663 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 618 for the week prior. To date, Evanston has had 8,448 total confirmed cases, and 129 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Positivity rate: The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate is 6.89 percent, compared to 8.12 percent for the week prior.
Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last month.
Vaccinations: 93.8 percent of residents 5 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 84.4 percent are fully vaccinated. View the City’s updated data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH.
Starting Monday: Proof of vaccination required for dining, entertainment and fitness facilities
Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, individuals 5 years and older will be required to show proof of vaccination when visiting Evanston dining, entertainment and fitness establishments starting Mon., Jan. 10. These mitigations are in line with those being implemented in neighboring communities, including Chicago, Skokie, and suburban Cook County.
Exemptions Added
The City added several exemptions to the order, including individuals 18 years of age or younger participating in youth athletics or recreation activities (except in facilities where food and drink are served throughout) and individuals participating in special recreation programs.
Q&A for Businesses
On Tuesday, the City’s Health & Human Services Department held a webinar to answer questions from Evanston business owners and staff. Watch the video.
IDPH adopts CDC guidance for quarantine and isolation
The IDPH has adopted the CDC’s recommendation to reduce the number of days for isolation and quarantine for the general public. The CDC updated its recommendation on December 27, 2021 to decrease isolation for people who test positive from 10 days to 5 days if they do not have symptoms.
Maximize your protection: Get your booster shot!
Getting vaccinated and boosted remains your best protection from severe illness or hospitalization from COVID-19. View the CDC’s booster shot guidance and schedule your appointment.
