 Add these events to your holiday calendar
Holiday Light Celebration: Join Mayor Biss, Santa and Mrs. Claus in lighting the holiday tree in Fountain Square this Sat., Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. Stick around and get your photo with Santa from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.!
Tree Tour and Open House: Enjoy sips, snacks and specials at Main-Dempster Mile stores and tour trees decorated by local families and businesses on Thurs., Dec. 9, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Plus, don't miss the unveiling of a giant holiday installation at the former Vogue Fabrics building.
CTA Holiday Train: Santa and his elves will ride through Evanston on the Purple Line December 8, 10 and 11. View the CTA Holiday Train schedule.
Mayor's Holiday Food, Book and Toy Drive: Give back this holiday season by donating new, unwrapped toys, children's books, and non-perishable food items. The donation drive runs through December 10.
 Say farewell to fall!
With winter just a few weeks away, it's time to say farewell to fall and all of the leaves that come with it.
Leaf Blowers: Today (December 2) is the last day that backpack-mounted or handheld gasoline-powered leaf blowers can be used for the season.
Food & Yard Waste Pickup: December 6-9 is the final week for food and yard waste pickup.
Additional Fall Street Cleaning: The City will continue street cleaning on residential streets through December 15 to clear leaves and other debris. Street signage has been updated with additional fall street cleaning dates, but you can also view the schedule online.
 Share your vision for a more accessible Evanston
Share your thoughts on accessibility in Evanston by completing a survey available through December 18. Your feedback will help create a blueprint for enhancing accessibility as part of the City's ADA Transition Plan Update.
COVID-19 Update

Cases: Evanston reported 103 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 81 for the week prior. To date, the city has had 5,822 total confirmed cases, and 125 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Positivity rate: The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate is 1.43 percent.
Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last month.
Vaccinations: 90 percent of residents 5 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 78.9 percent are fully vaccinated. View the City’s updated data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH.
Protect yourself and your loved ones this holiday season — get vaccinated!
Whether you’re seeking a booster shot or your first dose, vaccinations are free and widely available:
- Visit vaccines.gov or call 1-800-232-0233 to schedule an appointment near you.
- Complete the City’s Vaccine Booster Survey to be notified about upcoming City of Evanston vaccination events. The City is planning to host a booster shot clinic later next week.
- Contact your healthcare provider to schedule an appointment.
The CDC recommends that everyone ages 18 and older should get a booster shot. Don’t wait to boost your immunity as we head into winter.

Changes to parking operations in 2022
The City will implement a variety of changes to parking operations in 2022 to encourage better use of underutilized parking spaces, provide more flexibility for local businesses, and support parking facility upgrades.

There are plenty of community events at Northwestern this month, including group exercise classes, virtual panel discussions, art exhibitions and more!
Evanston receives funding for arts organizations
The Evanston Arts Council is the recipient of a $150,000 American Rescue Plan grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which will be used to support Evanston arts organizations.
Gun buyback event, December 4
As part of efforts to reduce gun violence, the Evanston Police Department will host a gun buyback event this Sat., Dec. 4, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1113 Clark St.
Is it time to register your child for kindergarten?
District 65 online kindergarten registration for the 2022-2023 school year opens on Mon., Dec. 6. Parents and guardians are invited to learn more by attending a virtual information session.
Apply for a Racial Equity and Community Partnership grant
In 2022-23, Northwestern will offer up to 10 Racial Equity and Community Partnership grants of $25,000 to $75,000 to support partnerships with community-based organizations focused on health equity, economic and social empowerment or youth learning. Letters of intent are due Jan. 14.

Two Evanston businesses are inducted to the Illinois Made Program
 The Illinois Office of Tourism has announced 28 new small businesses inducted to the Illinois Made Program, including Evanston-based Kombucha Brava and Noir d’Ébène Chocolat et Pâtisserie.
The program recognizes these businesses as hidden gems for locals and visitors to discover, offering unique products and experiences. Make sure to support these and other Evanston businesses this holiday season!
