Celebrate the holiday season in Evanston!
From shopping to celebrations to symphonies, there are plenty of ways to get in the holiday spirit!
Support local businesses: Get a jump start on your shopping with great deals and unique gifts from Evanston businesses on Small Business Saturday this Sat., Nov. 27! Meet a few of the people who make Evanston business districts vibrant and fun.
Light the menorah: Celebrate Hanukkah with Tannenbaum Chabad House on Mon., Nov. 29, 5:30 p.m. at Fountain Square. Enjoy live music, an LED robot dancer and festive treats.
Flip the switch: Join Mayor Biss, Santa and Mrs. Claus in lighting the holiday tree in Fountain Square on Sat., Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. Performances by Evanston Children's Choir, Northwestern Purple Haze and the Actors Gymnasium will put you in the holiday mood!
Listen to the sounds of the season: Join Rembrandt Chamber Musicians for Holiday Baroque on Sun., Dec. 5 and the Evanston Symphony Orchestra for its annual Holiday Concert on Sun., Dec. 12.

Save your bulbs from the bin! Starting Wed., Dec. 1, you can drop off holiday string lighting for recycling at the Evanston Ecology Center, Levy Senior Center, and Robert Crown Community Center. Garlands, live greens and wreaths are not accepted.

With schools closed, Evanston Parks & Recreation and Evanston Public Library have offered extended childcare and expanded programming for kids this week, including STEM activities, open gym, drop-in crafts, puzzles, and, of course, lots of good books to read!
COVID-19 Update
![Confirmed cases November 24, 2021](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/ILEVANSTON/2021/11/5221454/3842523/image-25_crop.png) Cases: Evanston reported 80 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 54 for the week prior. To date, the city has had 5,697 total confirmed cases, and 121 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Positivity rate: The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate is 0.84 percent.
Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last month.
Vaccinations: 89 percent of residents 5 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 78.2 percent are fully vaccinated. View the City’s updated data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH.

Protect yourself and your family! Whether you’re seeking a booster shot or your first dose, vaccinations are free and widely available:
- Visit vaccines.gov or call 1-800-232-0233 to schedule an appointment near you.
- Complete the City’s Vaccine Booster Survey to be notified about upcoming City of Evanston vaccination events.
- Contact your healthcare provider to schedule an appointment.

The final week for seasonal food and yard waste collections is December 6 through 9. Want to keep composting this winter? Sign up for Collective Resource Compost's Winter Gap program.
Register your pet by December 31
2022 pet registration is due Fri., Dec. 31. Registering your dog or cat will increase the chance of being reunited in the event that it becomes lost, and also serves as a reminder to renew its annual rabies vaccination.
