The holiday season has begun!
As we transition from pumpkin spice to peppermint season, here are a few ways you can get into the holiday spirit:
Donate to the Mayor's Holiday Food, Book & Toy Drive: Help ensure every Evanston family gets to celebrate this season by donating new, unwrapped toys, staple food items, and new and gently used children's books to the Mayor's Holiday Food Book and Toy Drive.
Attend the Central Street Holiday Open House & Tree Lighting: Light the way to your holidays on Central Street this Sat., Nov. 13. Spend the day enjoying shopping specials, holiday festivities, dining deals and a tree lighting ceremony in Independence Park at 5 p.m.
Become 'Santa for a Day': Santa's pop-up workshop is coming to downtown Evanston this holiday season! Located at 710 Church St., Santa for a Day teaches children the power of the pen while ensuring their holiday wishes come true.

Chicago Avenue Corridor Improvements: Learn about planned improvements along the Chicago Avenue Corridor and provide your feedback at an open house tonight from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at City Volkswagen of Evanston, 1034 Chicago Ave.
ADA Transition Plan Update: Attend a community open house to learn about and provide feedback on the City's ADA Transition Plan Update on Thurs., Nov. 18, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Levy Senior Center.
COVID-19 Update
Cases: Evanston reported 59 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 49 for the week prior. To date, the city has had 5,584 total confirmed cases, and 121 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Vaccinations: 84.2 percent of residents 5 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 76.8 percent are fully vaccinated. View the City’s updated data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH.
Local positivity rate and hospitalization data is not currently available. Visit the IDPH website for Region 10 (suburban Cook County) metrics.
Vaccination Updates
COVID-19 vaccines now recommended for children ages 5-11
Children ages 5 to 11 are now eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. If you have children in this age group, please visit vaccines.gov or call 1-800-232-0233 to find and schedule a vaccination appointment.
The City has a limited supply of pediatric COVID-19 vaccines, and is working with Evanston/Skokie School District 65 and community partners to coordinate on-site vaccination events. Registration is now full for this Saturday’s event in partnership with District 65.
If you’re interested in receiving the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine from the City of Evanston's Health & Human Services Department, please complete the City’s COVID-19 Vaccine Survey for 5-11 Year Olds to be notified of upcoming vaccination events for this age group.
You can also contact your child’s healthcare provider to see if they provide the COVID-19 vaccine.

Helping older adults connect to life
The City has partnered with AgeOptions and Uniper Care to offer a free virtual health and wellness platform, Uniper, for eligible Evanston residents to enjoy safely from their homes. The platform is available online or through a TV and allows user to participate in a variety of wellness classes while forming social connections with others.

Nearly five tons of pumpkins were collected for composting at last weekend's "It's the Great Pumpkin Compost" collection event, including some very creative jack-o'-lanterns! See photos from the event on the City's Facebook page.
Need help staying warm this winter?
Interfaith Action of Evanston operates an Emergency Overnight Shelter at rotating locations throughout the winter months. Individuals experiencing homelessness should contact Interfaith Action at 847-869-0370 or Connections for the Homeless at 847-475-7070 for information. View the immediate needs directory.
