Read below for information about trick-or-treating and Halloween events, additional fall street cleaning, COVID-19 booster shots, and how to provide your feedback on the city manager search.

 Halloween weekend is almost here!
Get in the spirit with plenty of fun fall events this weekend!
Farmers' Market Fall Fest: Bring the kids to the Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market this Saturday for the 2021 Fall Fest! Enjoy pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, and a trick-or-treat bag filled with fun swag. There will also be an area to take family photos; costumes are encouraged!
Spooky Saturday: Trick-or-treat and enjoy special deals at participating shops on the Main-Dempster Mile on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Trick-or-Treat Stroll: Pick up a map at Fountain Square to start your downtown trick-or-treat adventure at local businesses on Saturday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Don't miss the pet costume contest at Fountain Square hosted by Dogtopia.
The Main Event: Official Evanston trick-or-treat hours are Sun., Oct. 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Check out guidelines for trick-or-treaters.
 Additional fall street cleaning planned
In November and December, the City will conduct additional street cleaning on residential streets to clear leaves and other debris.
What you should know: Street signage has been updated with the additional cleaning dates and parking restrictions will be enforced. Visit the City's street cleaning web page to view the schedule and sign up for convenient text/email parking notifications.

Provide your feedback on the city manager search
The Evanston City Council has begun its search for the next city manager and has contracted with CPS HR to facilitate this process. The first step is to gather community feedback, which will help identify the unique and important characteristics necessary for this key position.
Take the survey: Participate in a confidential community survey available online in English and Spanish by Fri., Nov. 12.
Participate in a virtual town hall: Join an upcoming virtual town hall meeting this Sat., Oct. 30, at 10:30 a.m.
Stay informed: Visit the city manager recruitment web page for a recruitment timeline and updates.
COVID-19 Update
Cases, Positivity Rates and Hospitalizations

Cases: Evanston reported 40 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 76 for the week prior. To date, the city has had 5,476 total confirmed cases, and 122 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Positivity rate: The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate is 0.50 percent.
Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last month.
Vaccinations: 89.6 percent of residents 12 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 82.6 percent are fully vaccinated. View the City’s updated data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH.

COVID-19 booster shots available
Last week, the CDC recommended expanded use of a booster dose of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Booster doses of all three vaccines are free and readily available at a variety of locations for eligible individuals. Visit vaccines.gov or call 800-232-0233 to schedule an appointment.
Want your booster dose from the City of Evanston? Complete the City’s Vaccine Booster Survey to be notified of upcoming vaccination events. At this time, the City is only offering booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Don’t forget your flu shot!
To reduce the spread of influenza and other illnesses this winter, the City’s Health and Human Services Department reminds you that in addition to getting a flu vaccine, you should practice the three Cs:
- Clean - Properly wash hands frequently
- Cover - Cover coughs and sneezes
- Contain - Contain germs by staying home if sick
Check with your healthcare provider or local pharmacy to inquire about getting the flu vaccine.

Congratulations to the Mayor's Awards for the Arts recipients!
The Evanston Arts Council has selected this year's annual Mayor’s Awards for the Arts recipients: Doug Haight, Tim Rhoze and Identity Performing Arts! The awards will be presented by Mayor Daniel Biss at the sold out "A Bright Night for the Arts" event on November 4.
Obtain vital records through the Evanston City Clerk's Office
The Evanston City Clerk's Office now offers vital records, including birth and death certificates, to eligible individuals upon request. Beginning Fri., Oct. 29, these records can be requested online or in person.
EC2C Community Coffee with Mayor Biss
Join Evanston Cradle to Career (EC2C) Advocates for Action 2.0 and Mayor Biss for Community Coffee on Sat., Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. on Facebook Live. Produced in partnership with Radio La Différence, this weekly Facebook Live radio show airs Saturdays at 10 a.m. and invites community members to share resources, ideas and concerns.
Fill out the Illinois Black Business Survey
Black business owners are encouraged to fill out a survey hosted by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Office, Chicago State University and the Chicago Urban League in order to provide input on the challenges and opportunities small businesses are facing.
Get help with your electric bill
Stay current on your ComEd bill with help from state-funded Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP). This program is open to eligible customers on a first-come first-served basis while funds are available. Apply today.

New murals are popping up throughout Evanston!
 Central Street: The building at the northwest corner of Central Street and Green Bay Road features a new mural, “Birds of Concern," created by Tyrue “Slang” Jones, which pictures three Evanston birds whose populations are in decline due to climate change and loss of habitat.
Oakton School: Muralist Rahmaan Statik is creating a mural on the exterior of Oakton Elementary School that expresses and celebrates the school's values. The mural will be finished within the next few weeks.
Washington Street: Artist Ben Blount painted a new mural along the viaduct walls on the west and north sides of the Washington/Custer intersection amplifying Evanston’s commitment to ending structural racism.
