The City of Evanston’s Senior Services Division and Mather are working together to help older adults “get connected”. Social distancing protocols protect those at risk from COVID-19. These precautions have also taken a negative toll on the physical and mental well-being for many who lack social connections. In response, the Mayor’s COVID-19 Task Force created the City of Evanston’s Senior Services Workgroup to focus on the needs of Evanston’s older adults. In May of 2020, the Senior Services Workgroup identified three main challenges for Evanston’s older adults during the pandemic: access to information, social isolation, and the “digital divide”.
To help Evanston older adults get connected, Mather and the City of Evanston's Senior Services Division are providing a limited number of iPads to Evanston individuals ages 55 or over. Program participants will also be given classes on the basic functions of an iPad and will be provided ongoing technology assistance through a phone-in help desk.
To apply or learn more about this program, please contact Mather at 888-600-2560 or by email. You may also obtain information by visiting us online. Stay tuned in the coming months for additional ways the City of Evanston Senior Services Division is working to keep older adults connected.
