Update to Masking Guidelines
Wear a mask in public indoor settings, even if fully vaccinated
The City's Health & Human Services Department has updated its masking guidelines in alignment with the latest guidance from the CDC, IDPH and Cook County Department of Public Health. Key points include:
- Individuals over two years of age should wear a mask in all public indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status. This includes at offices, businesses, restaurants and bars fitness centers, grocery stores, and other public venues.
- Fully vaccinated people are recommended to wear a mask if they are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID-1, or if they have someone in their household who is immunocompromised, at increased risk of severe disease, or not fully vaccinated.
- Masks continue to be required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, at K-12 schools, indoors at City facilities and library locations, in healthcare and long-term care settings, and on public transportation.
- Those who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear a face covering and practice social distancing at all indoor businesses and venues, as well as in outdoor public settings when maintaining a sex-foot distance from others is not possible.
 Bring the movie theater outdoors!
Starlight Movies in the Park continue this week with News of the World on Sat., Aug. 14 at Dawes Park (Sheridan Rd. and Church St.). Movies begin at 7 p.m. This summer, community members are enjoying Starlight Movies on a bright, new digital screen, which can show movies at any time of day.
“Black Lives Matter Way” Honorary Street Sign Recognition Ceremony
Join the City of Evanston and Evanston Township High School on Sat., Aug. 14 for a "Black Lives Matter Way" Honorary Street Sign Recognition Ceremony. Head to the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Church Street at noon to hear brief remarks by Alderman Braithwaite, District 202 School Board members, and ETHS' Superintendent and Athletics Director.
Last summer, the ETHS Boys Basketball program was motivated to make an impactful and supportive statement of the injustices faced by the Black community by painting “Black Lives Matter” along Dodge Avenue in bold yellow text in front of their high school.
While the murals, news coverage, and yard signs will eventually fade, honoring the section of Dodge Avenue in front of ETHS as “Black Lives Matter Way”, constantly reminds Evanston residents to strive for continuous improvement in order to one day achieve a just and equitable society.
 Renter and Landlord Eviction Webinars
The Metropolitan Tenants Organization's is offering two webinars, one catered to renters and the other to landlords. If you're a renter, join in on Mon. Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. to learn and ask questions about current eviction policies and renters rights during COVID-19. If you're a landlord, join in on Wed., Aug. 18 to learn and ask questions about the eviction moratorium and changing rules.
