COVID-19 Update
Cases, Positivity Rates and Hospitalizations

Evanston reported 30 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 18 for the week prior. The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate is 1.71 percent, up from 1.18 percent for the seven days prior. Despite the uptick in cases and the positivity rate, local COVID-19 hospitalizations remain low.
To date, the city has had 4,698 total confirmed cases, and 118 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Vaccinations
View the City’s updated data dashboard (view on mobile) for the latest Evanston-specific vaccination data from the IDPH. To date, approximately 85 percent of residents 12 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 78 percent are fully vaccinated.
Now is the time to get vaccinated. Although the highly contagious Delta variant has not yet been detected in Evanston, don’t wait for it to arrive to get your shot. COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and free, and vaccination appointments are widely available. Visit vaccines.gov to find a vaccination appointment or call 1-800-232-0233.
Updated Masking Guidance
This week, the CDC and IDPH announced updated masking recommendations in response to a surge in COVID-19 cases nationally. The Evanston Health & Human Services Department is adopting these recommendations, which include:
- Teachers, students, staff and visitors at K-12 schools should wear a face covering indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
- Everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, should wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with substantial or high transmission. At this time, Evanston is not considered to be an area of substantial or high transmission; however, Evanston businesses and venues may continue to require face coverings regardless of vaccination status.
As a reminder, community members who are not fully vaccinated should continue to wear a face covering and practice social distancing at indoor businesses and venues, as well as in outdoor public settings when maintaining a six-foot distance from others is not possible. View the City’s mask guidance.
