 'Evanston Recycles' returns this Saturday
It's time to get rid of unwanted items in your home! Recycle electronics and securely shred documents at the "drive up, drop off" "Evanston Recycles" event this Sat., July 10, from 9 a.m. to noon, at ETHS. Only electronic waste, prescription medication and documents for shredding will be collected.
 Food Truck Festival & Starlight Concert
Bring your best buds and your taste buds to the Food Truck Festival and Starlight Concert on Tues., July 13, at Elks Park, located at Mulford Street and Callan Avenue. Food trucks, including Happy Lobster, Cookies with Flavor, and La Cocinita, will be on site beginning at 5:30 p.m. Then, starting at 7 p.m., enjoy a concert featuring South City Revival, who bring a Rock & Roll infused take on Country and Americana music.
 Main Street Improvements Project update
Water main and sewer improvements are underway along Main Street, from Maple to Hinman Avenues. This work is the first phase of the Main Street Improvements Project, and includes the replacement of 100-year-old water main. The second phase of the project will include complete streetscape improvements, lighting upgrades, sidewalk and ADA ramp reconstruction, roadway rehabilitation, traffic signal upgrades, and landscaping.
Support local business: Make sure to get out and support local businesses along the Main-Dempster Mile during this time.
Free parking: Lot #24, located at 727 Main St., will remain open for complimentary 4-hour parking throughout construction.
 Support local business districts this summer
Central Street Sidewalk Sale: Take a stroll along Central Street this weekend during the annual Sidewalk Sale from July 8 to 11. Shop big sales at your favorite local merchants, grab local eats, and enjoy free yoga classes, arts and crafts activities and live music.
Sidewalk Sale & Chalk Art Contest: Get ready for another weekend of amazing shopping deals from July 22 to 25. Downtown shops will set up racks and tables with too-good-to-resist deals on the sidewalks. Don't forget to check out Downtown Evanston's Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest.
Get Fit Fridays: Get fit with Downtown Evanston this summer! Enjoy a series of free fitness classes on Fridays at Fountain Square Plaza. Get Fit Fridays will showcase health and fitness businesses in downtown Evanston and provide free, fun and healthy activities for all!
Thursday Night Markets: Downtown Evanston is hosting monthly Thursday Night Markets at Fountain Square through October, with the next event happening tonight, July 8 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
COVID-19 Update

Evanston reported seven new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to one for the week prior. The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate is 0.51 percent.
To date, the city has had 4,661 total confirmed cases, and 118 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Vaccinations
77 percent of eligible Evanston residents fully vaccinated

As the percentage of residents vaccinated has increased, COVID-19 cases have decreased, as shown in the chart above. As of July 6, approximately 84 percent of Evanston residents 12 and older have received at least one vaccine dose, and 77 percent are fully vaccinated.

Due to delays brought on by the pandemic, this year's Cook County 2020 second installment tax bills (.pdf) will be mailed out one month late and will likely be due on September 1.
Attend a Public Hearing for the Five-Fifths TIF
The City is holding a public hearing for the proposed Five-Fifths TIF District on Mon., July 12 at 5:30 p.m. The public hearing will take place during the virtual City Council meeting.
