EVANSTON, IL - Evanston community members can enjoy a variety of free events and activities at parks and community centers throughout the summer as part of the City of Evanston’s new My City, Your City, Our City initiative.
Presented by the City’s Health and Human Services Department, Parks and Recreation Department, and local youth-serving organizations known as The Collective, My City, Your City, Our City will provide safe, fun and enriching summer activities geared towards youth ages 13 to 18 years old, as well as intergenerational activities for the whole family. The initiative will include free extended hours and programming at Evanston community centers, community-building events, and access to community information and resources.
Community-Building Kickoff Event Friday, June 4, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Community members of all ages can stop by Foster Park, located at Simpson Street and Ashland Avenue, to enjoy free food, an obstacle course, and a variety of games, including the first in-person Senior Foster Club Bingo Tournament in the Park since the start of the pandemic. Representatives from The Collective will also be on site to provide information on resources available to youth and families throughout the summer and beyond.
Expanded Hours and Free Activities at Evanston Community Centers Monday through Thursday, June 7 through August 12 , 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Youth ages 13 to 18 can visit the Robert Crown Community Center (Mondays) and Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center (Tuesdays through Thursdays) for free indoor and outdoor weeknight activities provided by The Collective and other local organizations and community partners. Activities will include video game tournaments with prizes, open gym with basketball skill challenges, as well as enrichment activities, including classes in etiquette, cooking, art, STEAM, financial literacy, health, engaging law enforcement, Kingian non-violence, and restorative circle groups.
Friday Pop-up Events Fridays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Pop-up events and enrichment activities for youth will take place on Fridays at the Levy Center, Mason Park and along the lakefront. A schedule of activities and locations will be posted at cityofevanston.org/safesummer.
First Friday and Back to School Events Fridays, July 2, August 6 and August 13, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Youth and families can enjoy free evening activities at two First Friday events and a special Back to School event this summer:
- July 2, Mason Park, Church St. and Florence Ave. (First Friday)
- August 6, Elks Park, Mulford St. and Callan Ave. (First Friday)
- August 13, Foster Park, Simpson St. and Ashland Ave. (Back to School)
The City of Evanston will adhere to all COVID-19 precautions recommended by local, state, and federal public health entities.

The Collective
The Collective is made up of local youth-serving organizations, including Connections for the Homeless, Curt's Cafe, Erie Family Health Centers, Infant Welfare Society of Evanston, James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy, PEER Services, Youth and Opportunities United (YOU), and Youth Job Center (YJC).
