COVID-19 Update
Vaccinations
Evanston Fire Department personnel continue to administer vaccinations at City point of dispensing (POD) events.
To date, the City has administered or distributed more than 22,000 total COVID-19 vaccine doses. View and explore the City’s interactive COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard (view on mobile) for Evanston-specific data.
Progress this week
- On Tuesday, the City administered more than 500 1st doses to individuals eligible as part of Phase 1A, 1B, and 1B+, including essential workers and those with underlying health conditions as defined by the IDPH.
- On Friday, the City will administer another 550 1st doses to individuals in these groups.
Next week and beyond
- The City anticipates beginning in-home vaccinations for those unable to attend City vaccination events.
- Additional vaccination events will be scheduled as supplies are confirmed and received.
Vaccine eligibility expands on April 12
Everyone 16 years and older in Evanston and Illinois will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning Monday, April 12. Please remember that eligibility does not mean availability, and demand for vaccines will continue to be greater than supply in the coming weeks.

Situation Report
Confirmed daily cases increase
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of confirmed daily cases increased to 16.29 new cases per day, compared to 6.86 new cases one week ago. Twenty-four cases were reported today in Evanston. The city has had 4,213 total confirmed cases to date, and 114 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
As of March 31, the seven-day rate of new cases per 100,000 residents is trending upward in Evanston (132.02), Skokie (172.25), Chicago (129.39), Cook County (123) and Illinois (133.19).
Positivity rate increases
The City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate increased to 2.52 percent compared to 0.88 percent one week ago. Local COVID-19 hospital admissions also rose.

April is Earth Month, a time to celebrate environmental progress, educate each other about stewardship and justice, and advocate for sustainable policies and practices.

Get out and vote on Tuesday!
Election Day is Tuesday, April 6. Find out your polling place and see which candidates are on your ballot using the Cook County Clerk's Your Voter Information tool.
Need to register on Election Day? You can register to vote and cast a ballot at your Election Day polling location.
Cast your ballot early: Early voting continues at the Morton Civic Center, Room G-300, through April 5. You can also register to vote at early voting sites.
Food and yard waste collections begin today
Weekly food and yard waste collections for the 2021 season began today, April 1. As a reminder, food scraps can ride along with grass clippings and leaves in food and yard waste carts or can be picked up by Collective Resource, the City's exclusive food scrap hauler.
Spring bulk trash pickup: Ready for spring cleaning? The City offers the free removal of up to six cubic yards of bulk garbage on Fridays, April 2 through April 23, scheduled according to residents' normal refuse pickup day. More info.
Submit your building permits early this year
With a high volume of building permit activity expected this spring and summer, residents and businesses are encouraged to submit building permits as soon as possible to avoid possible delays to their projects.
How to submit a permit: Visit the Citizen Portal to submit an application for an express permit. Permits for larger, more complex projects that require review and approval should be submitted via email to permitdesk@cityofevanston.org. Learn more.
