COVID-19 Vaccination Update
To date, the City has administered or distributed nearly 16,000 total COVID-19 vaccine doses as part of Phase 1a and 1b. This includes 1st and 2nd doses administered at City vaccination events, as well as doses the City has distributed to local hospitals and healthcare partners.
New! View and explore the City’s interactive COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard for Evanston-specific data. The City is working with the IDPH to obtain more complete data and will update the dashboard as it becomes available.
Progress this week
This week, the majority of vaccine doses allocated to the City by the IDPH were 2nd doses for those who received their initial vaccination in February.
The City continues to prioritize the limited supply of 1st doses it receives for individuals 65 years and older, from oldest to youngest, as well as educators, daycare workers and support staff, and those living or working in congregate settings.
Below is a summary of vaccines distributed and administered this week:
- On Tuesday, 530 2nd doses were administered to individuals 78 years and older and Phase 1a healthcare workers.
- On Friday, the City will administer approximately 550 doses, including 2nd doses to individuals 75 years and older and Phase 1a healthcare workers, and 1st doses to individuals 70 years and older as well as educators, daycare workers and support staff.
The City continues to administer vaccines as quickly as they are supplied by the state, and has the capacity to increase distribution as more doses are manufactured and received.
Next week and beyond
The City anticipates that it will receive a gradually increasing number of 1st dose vaccinations from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) over the next three weeks.
Below is a summary of vaccines anticipated to be administered next week:
- 2nd dose vaccinations will be provided to staff and residents at two congregate living facilities.
- Additional vaccination events will be scheduled early next week as supplies are confirmed and received.

COVID-19 Situation Update
Confirmed daily cases increase
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of confirmed daily cases increased to 10.43 new cases per day, compared to 7.43 new cases on February 24. This increase was driven largely by lab reporting delays from backlogged cases, as well as new cases in congregate living settings. The City is working with these facilities to implement measures to prevent further spread.
As of March 3, the seven-day average of new cases per 100,000 residents increased in Evanston (142.91), Skokie (103.67), Chicago (75.61), and Cook County (81), and decreased in Illinois (96.10).
Eight COVID-19 cases were reported today in Evanston. The city has had 3,961 total confirmed cases to date, and 114 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Positivity rate increases
As demand for COVID-19 testing has decreased, the City’s seven-day moving average positivity rate increased to 3.32 percent compared to 2.43 percent one week ago. Local COVID-19 hospital admissions are stable.
As a reminder, you can access free testing daily at the State's COVID-19 community-based testing sites, including the nearest Harwood Heights and Arlington Heights locations. Testing is also available at some CVS, Walgreens and Physicians Immediate Care locations. Call your primary care provider for inquiries about testing.
