I want to thank you all for your continued support of FJT during 2020. Of course we were not able to produce our always anticipated Women’s History Month Champagne Bruncheon, Summertime Play Season, or our Summertime Concert Series; however, we were able to produce several productions virtually. These productions included the 80 episode Stay Creative & Seasoned Learners Series featuring Eldridge Shannon III, Gillian Hemme, Kara Roseborough, Regina Taylor and Professor Bria Walker, the plays Fires In The Mirror by Anna Deavere Smith featuring Bria Walker (in association with Pittsburgh Public Theatre) and Am I The Only One Here? by the Teen Devised Theatre Ensemble (in partnership with Mudlark Theater and Piven Theatre Workshop), the annual Kwanzaa Celebration and the “Live” streaming of the unveiling of the newly commissioned Kwanzaa Kinara display which was designed and built by Evanston artist Eric Beauchamp, and the virtual musical installation offering The New World produced by the newly formed Evanston Performing Arts Collective (EPAC). I hope of you were able to attend some if not all of these virtual offerings.
In regards to your purchased Summertime Season 2020 Premium Gold Card Memberships and Women’s History Month Champagne Bruncheon tickets, FJT will absolutely honor both at full value when we are able to produce these events in person. As a special thank you for your patience and continued support, we will be adding extra bonuses to your Premium Gold Membership and to your Women’s History Month Champagne Bruncheon tickets. I personally want you to know that you all are greatly appreciated for helping to keep FJT relevant in our Evanston community.
Sincerely,
Artistic Director

The time for shifting the narrative around social justice, racial justice, and the evolution of activism, post the historic Civil Rights Movement, is here. On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a panel of young, gifted, Black Evanstonians will have a spirited, thoughtful conversation about the history and future of civil and human rights in Evanston and in America. The four panelists, Katia Bell, Sarah Bogan, Alexis Harris-Dyer, and Kara Roseborough will be joined by host, ETHS alum, 2017 NAACP Community Service awardee, and Northwestern University senior Nolan Robinson Jr. All of these dynamic young activists, The Evanston Five, are under twenty-six years of age.
Join in on Monday, January 18 at 7 p.m. to be part of the activist community and tune into the “The Shifting Narrative” broadcast. Visit Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre’s Facebook Page or YouTube Channel.
The Evanston Five: Katia Bell, Sarah Bogan, Alexis Harris-Dyer, Kara Roseborough and Nolan Robinson. These five young, gifted, Black Evanstonians are the truth. The entire Evanston community should join the broadcast and listen to what they have to say. They are highly educated, aware of the madness around them, thoughtful and could never be confused with being ideologically mercurial and disconnected. They are examples of a larger community of stellar young Black Evanston activists who are demonstrating by example how our present and future are in the hands of courageous young people who are more than capable of articulating the moment they find us and themselves in. They are speaking up and speaking out for change because..."Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" - Martin Luther King Jr.
Why the Evanston Five? They are just five of the many. The next Five will always step up. And then the next Five. And the next Five. And the next... 2021 in Evanston? They "Got This!”
Number 5 symbolizes curiosity and freedom and change, and represents the five senses of humanity. 5 is the pivotal point between the numbers 1 to 9 and represents a variety of experiences through its developed senses, and offers many opportunities for choices and decisions for the future.
