Libraries must change if there is any hope of addressing the systemic racism of the past and present. To that end, we have begun a new venture in library collections. Formed with Collection Development Manager Elizabeth Bird, this committee will aid in the purchase of materials for the Black community of Evanston, IL. Members of this group include Deshana Newman, Elizabeth Averyhart, Traci Powell, Anya Tanyavutti, Candice Shakur and Chaga Walton.
This newsletter is your best way of keeping up with the committee's proposals, thoughts, and recommendations as we proceed forward.
Have suggestions of your own? Let us know! We're always on the lookout to make our library's collections truly representative of Evanston, IL.

The Hurston/Wright Legacy Award Books for 2020 Are Released!
-
The Hurston/Wright Legacy Award™ honors the best in Black literature. Introduced in 2001, the Legacy Award was the first national award presented to Black writers by a national organization of Black writers. Fiction, debut fiction, nonfiction, and poetry honorees are selected in a juried competition. Don't miss this fantastic list of 2020 book winners. Evanston Public Library owns all but two of these winners (and those two are on order, don't worry!).
