City of Evanston weekly food and yard waste collections will end for the season on Thursday, December 10. To continue composting through the winter, residents are encouraged to sign up for the Winter Gap Composting Program offered by Collective Resource Compost (CRC), the City’s exclusive food scrap hauler.
The 16-week Winter Gap program allows residents to pay a one-time fee to have a food scrap collection container dropped off at their residence for weekly or biweekly swap outs. Service options include a five-gallon bucket or a 32-gallon neighbor tote, which can be shared by neighbor participants. Families of four typically have one bucket swap out weekly. The Winter Gap program begins the week of December 7 and continues through the week of March 29.
Residents who are interested in signing up for the service or have questions should contact Collective Resource Compost directly by filling out the contact form at collectiveresource.us.
The Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse (ERW) is a non-profit organization that promotes the reduction of waste in landfills through sustainable deconstruction and renovation building practices.
On October 23rd staff, volunteers, family, customers, elected officials were present to celebrate the grand opening of ERW's new location!
After heart-felt remarks from Executive Director Aina Gutierrez, Mayor, Steve Haggerty cut the ceremonial 2x4, with a golden saw, and the doors were officially opened! Community members were given complimentary ERW masks and invited to play safe, socially-distant games. Visitors also got an exclusive tour of the 28,000 square foot warehouse and community hub before participating in a raffle.
Be sure to visit the new warehouse location with expanded hours:

This September, the City of Evanston added 90 new dockless electronic bikes for residents to use as an expansion of the Divvy bike-share system.
It is expected that this addition will make the system more accessible to residents throughout the entire city, said Jessica Hyink, Evanston’s transportation and mobility coordinator.
