Thank you for the part you have played at the Evanston Public Library over the years. Today, we are Reimagining how and where to best serve all of Evanston with special emphasis on who we are not adequately serving now. We all have a role to play in co-creating the Library's future. Just released! 101 Great Books for Kids List 2020! A diverse EPL team led by Collection Development Manager Betsy Bird and Children's Librarian Brian Wilson worked all year on this fantastic list. Use it to reserve Library books or as a guide for holiday shopping. Books are appropriate for readers ages 2-12. Read more and get a printable PDF of the list in Betsy's blog.

Theatre in the Time of a Pandemic. A Mini-Course: Join this free, non-credit course taught by Professor Emerita of African American Studies and Theatre Sandra L. Richards, presented in partnership with the Northwestern Emeriti Organization.
The first virtual class will be a screening of the play Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau, which the New York Times described in 2017, upon its premiere performance at Lincoln Center Theater in New York, as a “passionate play about a family struggling to outrun social prophecy.” The screening is followed by sessions on December 2 and 9. Cooking with Cat: Join us for a family-friendly virtual cooking class with Cat Nickles. Cat has raised over $18,800 for Beyond Hunger, the Oak Park Food Pantry, through her 8th Grade Capstone Project, "The Quarantine Cookbook." Friday, November 13, 5 pm. Register.
Hawk Talk with Live Raptors! Join naturalist Ryan DePauw from River Trail Nature Center. Meet some of his raptor friends over Zoom. Learn about birds of prey found on the North Shore and in nearby forest preserves. Sunday, November 22, 2 pm. Register.
Emancipation to Inauguration: The Black Experience in Chicago. From the shotgun shack to the White House, the Black Experience in Chicago is rich, nuanced and profound. EPL is one of 25 public and academic libraries in America (and the only one in Illinois) to receive a Resilient Communities grant from the American Library Association (ALA). With this grant, EPL can work to address the climate crisis in Evanston through programs and discussions on the subject, including film screenings, community dialogues, and more.
Free Virtual Educational Session on HIV/AIDS & PrEP: We've partnered with Lurie Children's Hospital for this virtual event to help parents and caregivers talk to young people about HIV/AIDS, PrEP, and sexual health. Tuesday, November 17, 7 pm. Register.
