Evanston Fire Department Announces Promotion of Five Distinguished Members

EVANSTON, IL - On Friday, October 30, 2020, at Fire station 3, 1105 Central St., a promotional ceremony was held to honor the significant accomplishments made by five distinguished members of the Evanston Fire Department. Their dedication and commitment to serve the community has been well reflected over their 65 years of combined experience.
Daniel Lynch promoted from fire captain to battalion chief. Battalion Chief Dan Lynch is a 3rd generation firefighter and 4th generation first responder. Dan has served the residents of Evanston since March 3, 2006. As an active member of Evanston Fire Department Local 742, Dan served as vice president for two terms and assisted with contract negotiations for six years. He also served on the MABAS Division 3 Dive Team and High Angle/Trench Rescue Team. Dan’s continuous training and commitment to the profession, passion for the job, and continued leadership will be of great service to the Evanston Fire Department for years to come.

Sean Malloy promoted from fire apparatus operator to fire captain. Fire Captain Sean Malloy started his career serving the residents of Evanston on January 9, 2006. Sean is a highly trained individual, serving as leader of the MABAS Division 3 High Angle/Trench Rescue Technical Team. He currently serves on the MABAS Division 3 Dive Team and the Evanston Fire Department Surface Water Rescue Team. Sean’s commitment and passion to the fire service has shown through in his extensive technical rescue training. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire & Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati. Sean’s steadfast commitment and dedication to the profession will help for him to perform his role at a high level.

Tom Youpel promoted from firefighter to fire captain. Fire Captain Tom Youpel started with the Evanston Fire Department on March 4, 2002. Tom has most recently served at Fire Station 3 on Central Street. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science. Tom is a dependable, aggressive firefighter who can always be counted on and one who will do well in his new role. Tom is the proud father to his daughter Sophia and his wife Margaret.

Megan Kamarchevakul promoted from firefighter to fire apparatus operator. F.A.O. Megan Kamarchevakul has served the residents of Evanston since March 18, 2010. Megan is highly trained and incredibly effective in developing several long-term initiatives, including development of the Fire Explorer program. Megan served as an EMS coordinator for four years and was instrumental in implementing new technologies which have significantly improved medical treatments provided within the field. She is an active participant in the Public Education Team and currently a member of both MABAS Division 3 Dive Team and EFD Swift Water Rescue Teams. Megan’s extensive training and commitment to the profession will serve her well in her new role.

James Trippi promoted from firefighter to fire apparatus operator. F.A.O. James Trippi started his career serving the residents of Evanston on September 12, 2011. Jim grew up in Evanston and served as an Evanston lifeguard for several years. Carrying on the tradition of water rescue, Jim currently serves as the leader of the Evanston Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team and as an ice and water rescue diver on the MABAS Division 3 Dive Team. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management and was instrumental in assisting in development of Evanston’s first Emergency Operations Plan during his residency with Evanston Fire Department. Jim is a tremendous asset to our department who will do well serving in his new capacity.
