Read below for a special COVID-19 update regarding new resurgence mitigations in suburban Cook County effective Wed., Oct. 28.

Earlier today, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced new COVID-19 resurgence mitigations for suburban Cook County (Region 10), including Evanston, effective 12:01 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 28.
What's impacted: The measures include temporarily suspending indoor service at bars and restaurants and limiting gatherings to 25 people or fewer. See the City's press release for more information. These mitigations do not currently apply to schools.
FAQs for residents and businesses
Are drive-thru, take-out or delivery services impacted?
No. Mitigations do not restrict drive-thru, take-out or delivery options for restaurants.
Do limits on the size of gatherings apply to outdoor events?
Yes. Gatherings are limited to the lesser of 25 guests or 25 percent of overall capacity both indoors and outdoors. This includes gatherings at home.
Do the mitigations impact organized sports and recreation?
There is no change to IDPH guidance regarding organized group recreational activities. All sports guidance effective August 15, 2020 remains in effect.
Do the mitigation measures impact indoor shopping and services?
No. Phase 4 guidelines remain in effect for retailers, service counters, and professional services.
Protect yourself and others
All residents are urged to continue to follow public health guidance to protect themselves and others, including:
- Watch your distance. Stay at least six feet from those outside of your household
- Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth in public settings (indoors and outdoors) when social distancing is not practical
- Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly
- Avoid large gatherings
- Stay home if you’re experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or if you’ve been in close contact with a person infected with COVID-19
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
COVID-19 testing at ETHS tomorrow
The City has partnered with IDPH to offer a second COVID-19 community testing event at ETHS. Testing will be available on Tues., Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to all residents regardless of symptoms; no registration is required.
Residents can also access free testing daily at the State's COVID-19 community-based testing sites, including the nearest Harwood Heights and Arlington Heights locations.

Cook County COVID-19 Recovery Resident Cash Assistance
This program offers a one-time cash payment of $600 to income-eligible suburban Cook County residents who've been impacted by the pandemic. Applications must be submitted by Fri., Nov. 6. Learn more and apply.
Utility Assistance Program
The Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc. (CEDA) provides utility payment relief to eligible residents.
Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Authority of Cook County's waitlist for Housing Choice Vouchers will remain open through Mon., Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m. Applicants' income must be at or below 50 percent of area median income to qualify. Learn more and apply. For questions, call 312-517-2388.
