Robert Crown ribbon cutting this Saturday!
Join elected officials, City staff, neighbors and community partners for a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication to celebrate the completion of the Robert Crown Community Center & Library project this Sat., Oct. 3, 10 a.m., at Robert Crown Park, Field Number 2. Face coverings are required.
Celebrate 'National Night Out' on Tuesday
Take a public stance against crime by attending "National Night Out" on Tues., Oct. 6! Join the Evanston Police Department and elected officials for activities throughout Evanston, including a Starlight showing of Black Panther at Mason Park, food trucks and s'mores at Twiggs Park, a neighborhood history hunt, and more!
First Responders Open House on Sunday
Join the Evanston Fire Department and Evanston Police Department for a First Responders Open House this Sun., Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 909 Lake St. The event will include an auto extrication demonstration, canine demonstration, kitchen safety presentation and more.
Meet the city manager candidates
As the City Council moves forward with the city manager recruitment process, they're seeking input from the community. A virtual community forum will be held on Wed., Oct. 7, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., to provide an opportunity to meet candidates selected as finalists and ask questions. Registration is required.
The 2020 Census deadline has been extended
There's still time to fill out the 2020 Census! For each uncounted resident, our community could miss out on $15,000 in federal funds over a decade. Head to my2020census.gov to fill out the Census today!

Confirmed daily cases remain steady
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of confirmed daily cases remained unchanged at 5.86 new cases per day over the last seven-day operational period. Four new COVID-19 cases were reported today in Evanston.
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of new cases per 100,000 residents is 55.8, lower than the State (111.03), Cook County (89), and our neighbors, Chicago (76.39) and Skokie (60.61). The State’s goal is 50 or fewer cases per 100,000 residents.
To date, Evanston has had 1,150 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Seventy-three Evanston residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Testing and hospitalizations
The City’s seven-day moving average test positivity rate (the percentage of those tested who tested positive for COVID-19 over a seven-day period) increased slightly to 1.7 percent, compared to 1.63 percent for the previous seven days. The statewide test seven-day positivity rate stands at 3.5 percent.
The number of tests performed by month continued to increase in September with more than 9,400 tests conducted. As a reminder, residents can access free testing daily at the State's COVID-19 community-based testing sites, including the nearest Harwood Heights and Arlington Heights locations.
COVID-19 hospital admissions continue to be stable.

Public health guidelines for Evanston businesses
The City of Evanston’s Health and Human Services Department is reminding all residents and businesses to continue following Restore Illinois Phase 4 public health guidelines. The City of Chicago recently updated some of its guidelines for businesses; however, these changes do not affect restrictions in Evanston.

Improvements coming to Main Street
Good news! Evanston has received a $500,000 grant from the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways to support major pedestrian, streetscape and infrastructure improvements along Main Street, from Maple to Hinman Avenues.
EPL receives grant to help serve unemployed residents
The Evanston Public Library (EPL) is the proud recipient of a $149,023 IMLS CARES Act Grant, which will fund specific EPL services directed towards those experiencing unemployment.
Looking to renew your driver's license?
Drivers of all ages can complete a vision screening, renew an Illinois ID card or driver's license (must be under 75 years old), and register to vote on Fri., Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Levy Senior Center as part of the Illinois Secretary of State's Super Senior Day and Mobile Driver Services event.
Leaf blower reminder
Backpack-mounted or hand-held gasoline-powered leaf blowers are allowed by the City for use between September 30 and the first Thursday of December, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please do not blow or rake leaves into the street as it can cause flooding and block sewers.

Join the 'Behind the Mask Challenge'
Who’s behind your mask? The Evanston Students Behind the Mask Challenge is raising awareness about the importance of wearing face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They're asking all residents and organizations to join their campaign by submitting short video messages, photos, artwork, and other creative works to be featured. Entries can be submitted to evanstonc2c@gmail.com through October 26, and prizes will include gift cards and gift baskets from Evanston businesses. View the challenge flyer.
