Evanston Fire Department to Bolster Fire Prevention Efforts with FEMA Grant

Trailer Grant

EVANSTON, ILLINOIS - The Evanston Fire Department has been notified that they have received a $9,523 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as part of their Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program. This grant program helps support worthwhile projects that enhance the safety of the public from fire and related hazards. The primary goal is to reduce injury and prevent death among high-risk populations such as children, the elderly and the disabled.

The Evanston Fire Department will use the funding to purchase a Fire & Life Safety Public Education Mobile Display Unit. Once we are through the pandemic, this vehicle will be used by members of the EFD Public Education Team to store, transport and display fire & life safety education materials for school and community education programs such as Senior Safety and Emergency Preparedness Fairs as well have the unit promote safety at community events such as the Farmers Market and Bike the Ridge.

"In 2018 fires across the US accounted for 3,655 fire fatalities and over 15,000  fire injuries," said Fire Chief Brian Scott.  "This public education unit will strengthen our ongoing community risk reduction efforts as we proactively educate the most vulnerable in our community about fire and life safety risks." He added, "My thanks to Captain John Roche of the EFD Fire Prevention Bureau for his efforts to secure this grant for the benefit of Evanston."
