Good afternoon!
Read below for information about COVID-19 testing at ETHS, bulk trash pickup, and Labor Day facility closures and service schedules.
As a reminder, you can find the latest Evanston-specific COVID-19 updates on the City's website.
COVID-19 testing at ETHS next week
The City is partnering with IDPH to host a temporary COVID-19 testing site at ETHS from September 8 through 10. Testing will take place daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or while supplies last, at the ETHS parking lot located east of Dodge Avenue and north of Lake Street. Both drive-through and walk-up testing will be available.
Where else can I get tested? Visit any of the State’s COVID-19 community-based, drive-through testing sites to receive a free test, regardless of symptoms.
Time to clear the clutter!
Take advantage of the free removal of up to six cubic yards of bulk garbage this fall as part of the City's Bulk Trash Pickup program. Fall 2020 bulk trash pickups will take place on Fridays, Sept. 18 through Oct. 9, and are scheduled according to residents' normal refuse pickup day. No electronics, appliances, construction materials, or hazardous materials are accepted.

Coronavirus update
Situation Report
Below, you’ll find the latest COVID-19 data from the City’s Health and Human Services Department. Visit the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile) for information and metrics updated daily.
You can also view IDPH Restore Illinois indicators for Region 10, which includes Evanston, as well as the criteria that could cause our region to become more restrictive.
Confirmed daily cases remain steady
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of confirmed daily cases remained steady at 3.43 new cases per day over the last seven-day operational period, compared to 3.29 new cases per day for the week prior. There were two new COVID-19 cases reported today.
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of new cases per 100,000 residents is 27, lower than the State (100), Cook County (112), and our neighbors, Skokie (70) and Chicago (95). The State’s goal is 50 or fewer cases per 100,000 residents. Please keep up the good work and continue to take preventive measures to protect yourself and others.
Evanston has 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, and 72 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
Testing and hospital admissions
The City’s seven-day moving average daily test positivity rate (the percentage of those tested who tested positive for COVID-19 over a seven-day period) increased to 1.65 percent, compared to 1.28 percent for the previous seven days. The statewide seven-day test positivity rate stands at 4.4 percent. COVID-19 hospital admissions continue to be stable.
Testing among Evanston residents has continued to increase month by month, with more than 7,000 tests conducted in August. As a reminder, residents can access free testing September 8-10 at ETHS.
Age and racial demographic data
Cumulative test positivity rates continue to decrease among all age and racial demographic groups:
NU Return to Campus update
Last week, Northwestern announced that with limited exceptions, first- and second-year undergraduate students will begin the year on a remote-only basis, and will be discouraged from moving to Evanston at this time. Third- and fourth-year undergraduates, graduate students, and professional students will be allowed on campus, but will be required to participate in Wildcat Wellness, a three-stage modified quarantine, prior to beginning any in-person activities.
NU’s Phased Return to Campus website provides more information about testing, contact tracing, reduced density on campus, and other health and safety protocols being implemented to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The City’s Health & Human Services Department will continue to communicate and work closely with Northwestern to protect the health and safety of students, faculty, staff and the larger Evanston community as the new school year begins.
Tips for a safe Labor Day
Planning a small gathering over the Labor Day weekend? Reduce your risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19 by following these CDC guidelines.
Contact tracing alert
Contact tracing is an important public health process to reduce and track the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Residents can help by responding and cooperating with public health officials in the event they are contacted.
Please remember that contact tracers will never ask for financial account information, Social Security numbers, or immigration status. Here are five ways to spot a scam.
