Coronavirus update
Situation Report
Below, you’ll find the latest COVID-19 data from the City’s Health and Human Services Department. Visit the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile) for information and metrics updated daily.
You can also view IDPH Restore Illinois indicators for Region 10, which includes Evanston, as well as the criteria that could cause our region to become more restrictive.
Confirmed daily cases
Evanston’s seven-day moving average of confirmed daily cases dropped to 3.29 new cases per day over the last seven-day operational period, compared to 5.14 new cases per day for the week prior. To date, Evanston has had 980 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with six new cases reported today. Seventy-one Evanston residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19.
How do we compare? Evanston’s seven-day moving average of new cases per 100,000 residents per week is 31.3, lower than the state (108.41), and our neighbors, Skokie (74.96) and Chicago (91.35). This shows that our collective efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 are paying off. Please keep up the good work and continue to take preventive measures to protect yourself and others.
Testing and hospital admissions
The City’s seven-day moving average daily test positivity rate (the percentage of those tested who tested positive for COVID-19 over a seven-day period) decreased to 1.28 percent, compared to 2.14 percent for the previous seven days. The statewide test positivity rate stands at 4 percent. COVID-19 hospital admissions continue to be stable.
As a reminder, residents can access free testing at the State's COVID-19 community-based testing sites, including the nearest Harwood Heights and Arlington Heights locations.
Age and racial demographic data
Cumulative test positivity rates continue to decrease among all age and racial demographic groups:
Updated Guidelines for Dining Out
On Wednesday, the State revised guidelines for dining out, requiring patrons to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth during any interaction with wait staff, food service workers and other employees at bars and restaurants. This applies to both indoor and outdoor settings.
