Coronavirus updates
Situation Report
Below, you’ll find the latest COVID-19 data from the City’s Health and Human Services Department. Visit the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile) for information and metrics updated daily.
You can also view IDPH Restore Illinois indicators for Region 10, which includes Evanston, as well as the criteria that could cause our region to become more restrictive.
Confirmed daily cases
There was an average of three (3) new COVID-19 cases per day reported over the last seven-day operational period, an increase from 2.14 new cases per day for the previous seven-day period. There were zero new COVID-19 cases reported at Evanston long-term care facilities over the last week.
To date, Evanston has had 886 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 38 cases currently active. Seventy-one Evanston residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. There were no COVID-19 deaths reported in Evanston over the last three weeks.
Hospital admissions
COVID-19 hospital admissions remain low, and hospitals have resumed services delayed by the pandemic. AMITA Health St. Francis Hospital and NorthShore University HealthSystem have resumed non-emergency surgery, elective procedures, and in-office visits with enhanced safety procedures in place for patients and staff.
Additionally, NorthShore offers COVID-19 Antibody Testing, also known as Serology Testing. This test is available for all ages at select NorthShore lab sites by appointment only, and may be fully or partially covered by insurance providers. This test is different from viral testing, which indicates whether a person has a current infection with COVID-19. Individuals should contact their primary care physicians or NorthShore’s community health hotline at 847-432-5849 to determine their risk factors for COVID 19 testing.
Testing
The City’s seven-day moving average daily test positivity rate (the percentage of those tested who tested positive for COVID-19 over a seven-day period) remained steady at 1.24 percent this week, lower than the State (4 percent) and County (5.4 percent) seven-day moving averages.
As a reminder, residents can access free testing at the State's COVID-19 community-based testing sites, including the nearest Harwood Heights and Rolling Meadows locations.
Age and racial demographic data
Cumulative test positivity rates continue to decrease among all age and racial demographic groups:
Reminder: It only works if you wear it!
Leaving home? Don’t forget to wear a face covering over your nose and mouth to protect yourself and those around you. Evanston and Illinois are safer and stronger when we go All In together.
When should you wear a face covering? Face coverings must be worn in public settings (indoors and outdoors) when maintaining a six-foot distance from others is not practical, including when working in or patronizing businesses. The City's Health and Human Services Department also recommends wearing a face covering any time you are in the vicinity of those most at risk for COVID-19, such as older adults and those with underlying health issues.
Face coverings are not a substitute for physical distancing. Please continue to keep a healthy six-foot distance between yourself and others.
Thanks for doing your part.
