Coronavirus updates
Situation Report, July 16
Below, you’ll find the latest COVID-19 data from the City’s Health and Human Services Department. Visit the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile) for additional information and metrics.
Confirmed daily cases
The average number of daily confirmed COVID-19 cases has remained steady over the last month, with an average of 2.43 new cases per day during the last seven-day operational period. Evanston long-term care facilities (LTCFs) reported only one new case over the last week.
To date, Evanston has had 830 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 25 cases currently active. Seventy-one Evanston residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19, an increase of one over the last week.
Hospital admissions and testing
COVID-19 hospital admissions have remained low since decreasing during the month of June. The City’s seven-day moving average daily test positivity rate (the percentage of those tested who tested positive for COVID-19 over a seven-day period) decreased from 1.48 percent last week to 0.75 percent this week.
Age and racial demographic data
Cumulative test positivity rates decreased among all age and racial demographic groups this past week:
Reports from a number of municipalities in Illinois have indicated a recent upward trend in new COVID-19 cases among teenagers and young adults. Although Evanston has seen a significant decline in the number of new cases among all age groups, we all must continue to follow necessary steps to continue to limit the spread of the virus in our community. Young people are just as likely as adults to get and spread the virus, especially when public health guidelines are not followed. Please continue to do your part to keep others safe.
Plan to combat resurgence
This week, as many states around the country reported an increase in COVID-19 cases, Governor Pritzker announced steps to combat a potential resurgence of the virus here in Illinois. View the plan (.pdf), which outlines what could cause regions to become more restrictive and provides new regional boundaries. View the latest IDPH Restore Illinois Regional Indicators.
Traveling this summer?
Travelers entering or returning to Evanston from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases should monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 and stay home if they develop symptoms or become sick. Please continue to follow public health guidelines, including practicing physical distancing and wearing a face covering in public, no matter where you are.
