Safe Reopening
The City of Evanston is working within the guidelines of the State’s Restore Illinois plan to get back to a new normal of work and recreation, while prioritizing the health and safety of residents and staff. Visit the City’s Safe Reopening web page for the status and reopening schedule for each of the City facilities, amenities and programs listed above. Please note that this is subject to change based on public health guidelines.
Playgrounds and basketball courts
As Illinois moves towards Phase 4, which could begin as early as June 26, the City is awaiting further guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health regarding the use of playgrounds and basketball courts. Currently, the use of these facilities is prohibited under Phase 3 State public health guidelines. Stay tuned for updates.
Public Health Reminders
Although Evanston and Illinois are making progress in the fight against COVID-19, we must not get complacent. Remember to continue to:
- Practice physical distancing
- Wear a face covering in public settings when distancing is not practical
- Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly
- Stay home when sick
Thank you for doing your part.
Equity-Driven Community and Grant Programs
Governor JB Pritzker announced a package of State grant programs to support communities and businesses impacted by the pandemic and recent civil unrest.
The grant programs will operate with equity requirements, ensuring that disproportionately impacted areas (DIA) receive their fair share of support.
Programs include:
- Businesses in DIAs - $20 million for businesses that are located in a subset of DIAs that have recently experienced significant property damage, providing 1,000 grants of $20,000 each
- Bars and Restaurants - $20 million for bars and restaurants unable to offer outside service, providing at least 1,000 grants of up to $20,000 each
- Barbershops and Salons - $10 million for barbershops and salons, providing 1,000 grants of $10,000 each
- Gyms and Fitness Centers - $10 million for gyms and fitness centers that have lost significant revenue due to COVID-19, providing 500 grants of $20,000 each
