 Celebrate Juneteenth in Evanston!
Juneteenth, also referred to as Emancipation Day, Juneteenth Independence Day, or Freedom Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. and is observed every year on June 19.
Virtual Juneteenth celebration: Planned by Kemone Hendricks of Evanston Present and Future, this virtual event will feature music and dance performances, presentations by Shorefront Legacy Center Founder Dino Robinson, remarks by Alderman Rue Simmons and Mayor Hagerty, a special guest interview with Opal Lee, and more. Tune in on Facebook or online this Fri., June 19 at 6 p.m.

Black Census Day: The Illinois Department of Human Services has declared this Fri., June 19 Black Census Day, highlighting the potential to impact racial inequities through funding for disadvantaged communities. Fill out the census at my2020census.gov.

 Summer camp registration is open
Summer camp registration is available online! Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Community members can register online, over the phone, or in-person at open recreation facilities. Learn more.
 Help shape Evanston's energy future
The City wants to hear what your priorities are for Evanston’s energy future to help us improve the air we breathe, lower utility bills, support healthier, cleaner jobs, and achieve 100 percent renewable energy to fight the climate crisis. Fill out our Evanston's Energy Future survey.
Renewable energy contract extended. The City Council has approved a 10-month extension of the City's contract with Dynegy to provide participating residents and small businesses with 100 percent renewable energy. Residents can expect to receive a letter in the mail this month detailing the agreement.

COVID-19 community testing events
The City is partnering with AMITA Health Saint Francis Hospital Evanston to provide two COVID-19 community testing events for residents who may not otherwise have access to testing on Mon., June 22 and Mon., June 29, at James Park.
Teen beach passes available for those in need
Teens ages 13 to 18 who might not otherwise have access to the beach can pick up a free 10-punch beach pass at the Dempster St. Beach Office, Evanston Ecology Center, Robert Crown Community Center and Library, and Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center. Proof of residency required (ETHS ID accepted). Season beach tokens are also available for purchase at these locations and online.
Street resurfacing work began this week
Earlier this week, the City began contracting Motor Fuel Tax street resurfacing work on 13 street segments throughout Evanston.
Fireworks are illegal in Evanston
Fireworks are dangerous and can be distressing to individuals and pets that are sensitive to loud noises. Remember, local ordinance prohibits possession and use of fireworks; violators are subject to citations.
Connect with services through the Evanston Care Network
The City, along with community partners, launched the Evanston Care Network to better connect individuals seeking social service assistance and resources with verified providers. Those seeking resources can visit the website or call 311 for assistance.
