Pavement Striping/Marking Work to Begin the Week of May 11

The City of Evanston will be placing and refreshing pavement striping/markings in Downtown Evanston and striping areas that were removed due to asphalt pavement patching throughout the city. The project is scheduled to begin the week of May 11 and to be completed within six to eight weeks, weather permitting.

During striping activities, motorists should expect minor delays near work zones as flaggers route traffic around the striping crews. These delays should be short in duration and specific to the daily work zones. In addition, certain areas may be posted for “No Parking” in order for contractors to have a clear work zone to apply the material. “No Parking” signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of when restrictions are enforced and will be removed as soon as work is completed.

The majority of the work will be completed using thermoplastic striping material. Thermoplastic striping is a type of reflectorized pavement marking material that is applied to the surface of the pavement through a heat fusion process. Markings are expected to last three to five years depending on traffic volume and pavement conditions.
