This weekly email can help you stay informed and connected with information about the Library, the greater community, and issues directly related to life during the pandemic.
When can I visit the Library again? The Library will resume in-person services in phases. We are working on that plan now. Social distancing requirements and best practices on the safe handling of library materials are key factors. Our plan for safely offering in-person services and access to books and other materials will be made with guidance from state and local public health officials and state library leaders.
For now, Library materials in your possession are due on July 1. Public, in-person Library programs are cancelled through August 31. We will keep you updated on our evolving plans in this newsletter, through our social media channels, and at epl.org.
The Digital Library with thousands of ebooks and eaudiobooks is always open. For help using the Digital Library, call us at 847-448-8630 or view our video tutorials in English and en Español
For information focused specifically on children and teens, read our KIDS Newsletter and our TEEN newsletter.

Katy recommends Book Love by Debbie Tung available on Hoopla. If you’re a quiet, stay-at-home-by-choice, book-reading type of person this little volume will make you feel wrapped in understanding and warm blankets!
Mariana recommends Who is Dayani Crystal? on Kanopy. This is a heartbreaking but beautifully shot film! Gael Garcia Bernal is amazing in this great docudrama that highlights the incredibly difficult decisions individuals make in order to live a better life.
Betsy recommends Something That May Shock and Discredit You by Daniel Mallory Ortberg, available on Libby in both ebook and eaudio. We’re all looking for something to make us laugh and Mallory’s amalgamation of pop culture (how do you do a perfect Columbo imitation?), religion, and thoughts on living as a trans man in America is as funny as it is poignant.
Jill recommends "An Evening With Florence Nightingale," a performance by Megan Wells, nationally known storyteller, and Jeff Award-winning theater director. Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Nightingale's birth and the nurses who today are saving lives and risking their own for the rest of us. View it live on the This Much is True Facebook Page, Tuesday, May 12, 7 pm.
