The Library’s role in service to the community is magnified during times of distress. During the last recession, library usage across the country increased more than 20% as people sought resources for job skills, internet access, and education.

While our work is clear, our financial support is uncertain. We need your help to respond to this unprecedented time. 

Together with you, we are focusing our efforts on equity and responding to the changing needs across Evanston today. While our physical libraries are closed, the Evanston Public Library is open. We are shifting our service model to provide virtual programming for all ages. This includes storytimes via YouTube, phone assistance with unemployment questions, virtual gaming and mental health happy hour for teens, and Memory Cafes on Zoom. Our social worker is available to those who are suffering hardships. We are working with schools to support home learning and partnering with the City of Evanston, 311 and Evanston Community Foundation to launch Evanston Care Network, a single point of entry for all city and nonprofit services available to Evanston residents.  

Today, our individual experiences may be different, but we must be united in our effort to support those in need. We are connecting with you on #GivingTuesdayNow, a day to join together and demonstrate our unified response to the new normal.
