COVID-19 cases in Evanston
Mayor Hagerty shared an update on COVID-19 cases in Evanston at Monday night's City Council meeting. Watch the video or view the slideshow presentation.
Although the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase, the pace of that increase is declining, and the data shows that everyone's hard work and sacrifice to slow the spread is paying off.
Stay informed. The City updates its COVID-19 web page daily at approximately 3 p.m. with the latest number of confirmed cases. As of Tues., April 28 at 3:15 p.m., there have been 324 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Evanston residents.
Illinois Stay at Home Order extended
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has announced that a modified “Stay at Home” Order will be in place through the month of May.
On Tuesday, the City announced updates to services and operations, including:
Facilities. City facilities, including recreation centers and library locations, will remain closed in May. Please complete City business online or by calling/texting 847-448-4311.
Streets and sanitation. Trash, recycling, and food and yard waste pickup will continue as scheduled. Street cleaning operations will also continue; however, parking citations will not be issued.
Parking. Non-safety related parking enforcement is suspended through May.
Meal services. The City's emergency food pantry and youth meals programs will continue. View additional resources.
Building permits and inspections. All permit types are now being accepted and issued. Most building inspections will be performed by phone or video. View guidelines.

On Friday, the City's public health manager, Greg Olsen, joined Erie Family Health Centers' chief clinical officer, Dr. Caroline Hoke, for a "Coronavirus Q&A." Watch the video.

Evanston has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with courage and compassion. Check out this incredible video by Downtown Evanston and SparkRaw Media, which showcases the support businesses, organizations, and residents have shown one another during this pandemic.
Gyros Planet celebrated its ribbon cutting in 2019. One year later, the restaurant is providing free meals to those in need.
Neighbors helping neighbors
The Chicago Tribune recently highlighted the work of an Evanston couple, Erika and Pablo, who are providing free lunches to community members in need at their restaurant, Gyros Planet. More than $30,000 has been raised to support their efforts. Read the article.
Reminders
Three actions to slow the spread
Help slow the spread of COVID-19 by following these three actions (view in Spanish):
- Stay in place. Stay at home except for essential activities.
- Maintain your space. Keep at least six feet away from others when outside of your home.
- Cover your face. Wear a cloth face covering when in public to reduce the spread of germs.
And don't forget to wash your hands frequently!
