Good afternoon,
This special edition of Evanston's E-News includes information about Governor J.B. Pritzker's "Stay at Home" order, Parks & Recreation virtual programming, ways to support Evanston businesses, and more.
Statewide 'Stay at Home' order begins Saturday
Governor J.B. Pritzker today announced a statewide "Stay at Home" order to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The order takes effect at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening and will continue through April 7. Help ensure the safety of our community by doing your part.
Will businesses stay open? Grocery stores, gas stations, hospitals, hardware stores, pharmacies and other essential businesses will remain open. Restaurants may stay open for delivery and pickup service.
Essential activities. Illinois residents can continue to leave home for essential activities and essential business, including taking care of family members, visiting the doctor, and purchasing groceries. Residents can also leave home for outdoor activities, such as walking or biking, but should practice social distancing while doing so.
Other measures. The governor's order also includes a ban on gatherings of more than 10 people, and a halt on all evictions.
Read the complete Executive Order and visit the City's COVID-19 page for local updates.
Do your part, shop smart
Grocery stores are open and Illinois’ food (and toilet paper!) supply chain is secure and robust, so please do not hoard. Doing so creates shortages that impact vulnerable members of our community. Purchase only what you need for the week, and make that your weekly routine.
When shopping in person, maintain social distancing and exercise common-sense hygiene (e.g. wash hands, wipe down goods when taken home, use a sanitation wipe on grocery cart/basket).
Many stores are offering special shopping hours just for seniors and those most vulnerable. Learn more on the City's COVID-19 resources page.
Keep calm and carry out. Many local restaurants continue to offer pickup and delivery service. Enjoy some comfort food (and comfort drink if you're over 21) while supporting our local Evanston businesses.
