To Our Valued Patrons and Evanston Residents:
Evanston Public Library (EPL) has canceled all programming until the end of April in response to public health concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Action has been taken as a purely precautionary measure. The Library remains open to the public, with a few minor changes to reduce the risk of possible infection. Toys have been removed from the Children’s department as well as kits from our Dementia Resource Center, hand-sanitizing stations have been placed in high-traffic areas, seating spaces and computers moved farther apart, the use of study and meeting rooms has been discontinued, and homebound delivery of materials has been temporarily stopped.
At the moment, COVID-19 has been given pandemic status by the World Health Organization, and there are 25 confirmed cases in the state of Illinois. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health agencies and experts have discouraged holding events and large gatherings given the current situation.
EPL is committed to keeping our community healthy, and we encourage you to keep yourself healthy as well by washing your hands frequently, sanitizing high-touch areas, avoiding close contact with others, and staying home if you feel unwell.

Additionally, we would like to dispel some rumors. Race is not a factor in the spread of COVID-19, and those of Asian descent are no more likely to transmit or contract it. It is important to put to rest unfounded fears in situations like these.
