Members of the community are welcome to attend open meetings for the City's Reparations Subcommittee. All meetings will be held in the Aldermanic Library of the Morton Civic Center on Fridays at noon.

 Celebrate Black History Month with the Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre
Celebrate Black History Month at a variety of community events in Evanston including a "Black History Makers Up Close" conversation on Mon., Feb. 10 and "Legends of R&B," a soul-stirring concert celebrating Aretha, Etta and Luther on Sun., Feb. 23.
New Robert Crown Center opening soon
The long-anticipated opening is almost here! The new Robert Crown Community Center and Library will open to the public on Sat., Feb. 29 for regularly scheduled programming.
Save the date: Help us celebrate at the City's Open House and Invocation event on Sat., March 14. Tour the new facility and participate in programming activities with fellow residents. More details to come.
 Laugh the night away at Evanston Laughs
Come out to the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center on Sat., Feb. 22, 7 p.m., for a night of live comedy featuring comedians Ben Noble and Lawrence Owens. Admission is $10; tickets are available online.
Evanston Ecology Center Indoor Farmers' Market
Stock up on your favorite winter goods and support Midwest vendors at the Evanston Ecology Center's Indoor Farmers' Market. The Market is open on select Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon, through April 25.
Learn about Chicago Style Steppin'
Come out to the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center on Thursday nights from January 23 through March 26 to learn the original Chicago style of stepping. Learn the history, evolution and etiquette of stepping, basic steps and turns, and how to get started in an open, friendly atmosphere.

Apply for up to $5,000 in cultural grant funding
Arts organizations are invited to apply to the City’s Cultural Fund Grant Program. The Cultural Fund, administered by the Evanston Arts Council, supports artistic excellence throughout the community by providing financial assistance to not-for-profit arts organizations for general operating costs or projects. Applications must be submitted online by Wed., April 1 at 5 p.m.
Help Faith Temple's "Voice of Faith" win!
Cast your vote for Evanston's own Faith Temple COGIC's youth choir "Voice of Faith" to help them win the Battle of the Choirs and have the opportunity to sing with the NBA All Star Gospel Choir on February 12 at the House of Hope.
 Senior property tax exemptions and programs
Evanston residents 65 years or older should apply for senior citizen property tax exemptions by Thurs., Feb. 13.
New this year: Under a new law, property owners who received the Senior Exemption last year will have it automatically renewed this year. However, the Senior Freeze Exemption must still be applied for every year.
Interested in deferring? Qualified seniors can defer as much as $5,000 in property taxes each year through the Senior Citizen Real Estate Tax Deferral Program. Applications must be submitted by Sun., March 1.
Evanston Community Day
The City of Evanston and the Ebenezer AME Church Dearborn Realtist Board are hosting an Evanston Community Day on Sat., Feb. 22 at the Morton Civic Center. Enjoy food, giveaways and raffles, free credit reports, wealth building classes, and learn about employment opportunities in the mortgage industry.

Each week in February, the City will highlight a Black Evanstonian who’s made an impact in the Evanston community. This week features local business owner Gigi Giles, who gives back through her business’s outreach efforts and her involvement in community organizations.
