They were presented at the event by Mayor Steve Hagerty and Police Chief Demitrous Cook.

In 2017, Officer Howard co-founded a male mentoring program in partnership with the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 known as The Officer and Gentlemen Academy (OGA). OGA mentors and educates Middle School boys in the Evanston. This program aims to educate, inspire, and empower young men to reach their full potential. The program has received incredible recognition for its commitment to serving Evanston youth: The 2018 Joe “Butch” Martin “Real M.M.E.N.” (Men Meeting Evanston’s Needs) Award, the 2018 NAACP Evanston-North Shore Chapter’s Community Service Award, and the 2019 Black Business Consortium of Evanston-North Shore’s Community Service Award.

Curt’s Cafe is a local non-profit that provides life skills and job training to youth in challenging situations. Curt’s Café has assisted and trained numerous Evanston youth and recently expanded their program to a newly opened Highland Park location. Their graduates have gone on to lead promising and successful lives.
