New Community Mobile Resource Center Celebrates Opening
Information and resources for better living where and when you request it? It’s on the way. The new Community Mobile Resource Center (CMRC) is designed to bring information and resources on personal finance, law, and health directly to people and neighborhoods that are seeking them, as well as offer childcare to make it easier for people to attend. The community is invited to a free barbeque to celebrate the kickoff of the CMRC.
The Evanston Public Library and its partners, the Evanston Community Bank and Trust, Family Focus, and Compass, the Northwestern Community Partnership for Settlement Strategies, are hosting a free barbecue to kick off this pilot program on Tuesday, September 17, 6 to 7:30 pm at Family Focus, 2010 Dewey Avenue. The kickoff is funded in part by the Evanston Community Bank and Trust. Also present will be representatives from potential community partners of the CMRC: the YWCA Evanston/North Shore, National Able Network, CEDA, and the James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy. All are welcome to this free barbecue and registration is not required.
The monthly information sessions provided by the Mobile Resource Center will be 90-minute evening classes on topics in personal finance, health, and legal issues chosen through community feedback. The first session is “How to Find a Lawyer If You Can’t Afford One” on Tuesday, October 15, 6 to 7:30 pm, at Family Focus. Classes on different topics will be held every month on the third Tuesday of the month. Childcare will be available.
The pilot classes will continue through 2019, thanks in part to a grant from the Evanston Community Foundation, These pilot classes will take place at Family Focus, although in the future, they will be held at different locations throughout Evanston.
About the Evanston Public Library
